Organic Mostello dry pear dessert wine 2009 375ml – dessert wine from Farthofer Distillery
The first in the Mostello range. A sweet-and-sour long-distance runner, with complex and interwoven notes on the nose of raisins, pear jelly, a hint of vanilla and, of course, toasted aromas. The finish is practically a never-ending story.
MOSTELLO is an innovative pear dessert wine composition and an invention by Farthofer. Inspired by port wine, this special wine composition, with its crystal-clear pear fruit and honey notes on the palate, is a real treat. This Mostello is full-bodied, has the aroma of pickled Rumpflaumen pears, the sweetness of blossom honey, offers a lovely body on the palate, is pleasantly warming, with full-fruited dried pear aromas and a fresh, pleasant acidity.

Description
Organic Mostello Pear Dessert Wine
MOSTELLO is an innovative pear dessert wine composition and an invention from our own house. Inspired by port wine, we refine only the finest raw ingredients from our region – wine pears – using the port wine method. Whilst fortified wines worldwide mature in warehouses in very warm to hot regions, our MOSTELLO is stored and matured for at least one year in the cool, crisp air of the Alpine foothills. After several years of experimentation, the very first vintage was produced in 2005. This unique speciality was launched in 2014, following nine years of gentle maturation and careful storage.
Production
Four fully ripe and healthy indigenous Mostviertel pear varieties were harvested by hand and gently pressed. The juice was left to ferment, and the fermentation process was deliberately halted shortly afterwards by adding our own organic pear must distillate. This blend was then matured in used oak barrels: for at least three years in our Öhlinger cellar and for one year outdoors in the fresh Mostviertel air. With temperatures reaching up to +30 degrees in summer and as low as -20 degrees in winter, we thus capture unique flavours. This dessert wine is unfined and unfiltered, and is therefore bottled in its entirely natural state. There is exactly one cask of MOSTELLO 2005: this one was stored at the top of the pyramid in front of our distillery, resulting in a higher concentration of aromas due to the intense temperature fluctuations.
Aroma
Our Mostello is amber in colour, clear and slightly viscous. Ageing in barrique barrels results in a unique and exquisite pear dessert wine composition, reminiscent of honey wine on the nose. Intense aromas of dried fruit, characterised by notes of raisins, dried pears and honey. On the palate, intense notes of dried pears and honeyed sweetness, with delicate hints of almond. Highly concentrated, intense, juicy fruit with a well-integrated hint of oak.
Serving recommendation
Depending on your taste and preference, you can enjoy MOSTELLO at red wine temperature (18 degrees) or chilled (8 degrees) in the specially designed MOSTELLO glass. Serve it chilled with strong cheeses or citrus desserts, or at red wine temperature for special moments with loved ones.
