Cinnamon is one of humanity's oldest spices. Real cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) used to be – and still is today – a treasure. Real cinnamon comes from Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) and belongs to the laurel family. The thin inner barks are placed inside each other and dried and ground into a fine powder.

Cinnamon not only goes wonderfully with baked apples, apple strudel, rice pudding, compote and other sweet dishes, but also gives coffee or hot chocolate a delicate aroma. A pinch of cinnamon with lentil, pumpkin, tomato and carrot dishes, but also minced meat, lamb and other braised dishes is delicious.
