Ribbed tab for safe removal – also marks the front of the cup, making insertion easier. Squeeze Use your thumb and index finger to squeeze the sides of the rim together to form a figure of 8. Insertion First insert the back rim of the cup (the side without the ribbed tab) and use your index finger to push the cup in. Tilt the cup backwards and slightly downwards so that the rim can slide past your cervix. Position Place the front rim (the side with the ribbed tab) behind your pubic bone so that the cup sits correctly around your cervix and can collect your menstrual flow. Removal: Insert your finger and hook it behind the front rim of the menstrual cup to remove it safely. Pull it out carefully whilst holding it horizontally to avoid spilling. Depending on the heaviness of your period, you can wear the menstrual disc for up to eight hours without emptying it. It has a higher capacity than a menstrual cup, holding around 55 millilitres (5–7 times the volume of a tampon). For this reason, it is particularly well-suited to people who experience heavier flow. A dry vagina can be avoided.
